Ralph Klein Park & Environmental Education Center

If you’re in Calgary, you’ll probably want to spend some time at Ralph Klein Park & Environmental Education Center. Located at 12350 84 St SE, Calgary, AB T3S 0A4, this park is home to wetlands, a natural playground, interpretive trails, and wetland viewing areas. The park also features meeting rooms and classrooms. A free Saturday daytime celebration celebrates King Ralph. While there, you can also check out the park’s educational programs, including a free family festival.

While the main attraction is the Reader Rock Garden, visitors can also see a variety of other animals. The garden is a national landmark, and its history dates back to the early 1900s. Reader lived in a cottage at the park, and it’s now a cafe and educational center. Another highlight of Ralph Klein Park is its man-made wetland, which filters stormwater before it enters the Bow River.

Another place for families to spend a day is Cobb’s Adventure Park, which offers a variety of activities for children. A special event like the Calgary Stampede draws thousands of people to the area every July. In addition, there’s the Olympic Oval, a skating arena built for the 1988 Winter Olympics. The ice is some of the fastest in the world, and 32 Olympians have competed on its ice. It’s open to the public to skate during the summer months.

A museum with over 2,000 artifacts is also nearby. It features an extensive collection of works by Canadian artists, as well as indigenous art from the northwest plains. If you’re interested in environmental education, the Centre for Nature Education is a great place to start. While the park is open to everyone, children must be accompanied by an adult to attend. Despite the park’s proximity to downtown, the museum is not free.
